Where do we begin? To say this was a busy weekend in the Cape Coral Spartan Universe is an understatement. We started off the day heading South to Naples for the JDRF walk for our brother Lucas. Lucas plays on the 8U Spartans. And as most of you already know, he plays and lives his life with type 1 diabetes. During practice and on tournement weekends his parents are constantly checking his sugar. He also keeps an insulin pump in his back pocket, with a port to make sure his blood sugar is where it needs to be. One thing about Lucas, diabetes NEVER gets in his way. His never give up attitude is something to be admired.
After the walk the Spartans dispersed. With the 9U team grabbing their lunch pails and heading to work at the Prostyle Holiday Invitational (more on that in a second). And the 8U team heading over to the the Big 10 Tavern for the first annual rib cookoff and wing eating contest to benefit the Cape Coral Spartans and the Max Strong Movement Fund. One thing no one counted on was the man himself MIGHTY MAX to make appearance! A lot of the Spartan boys were happy to finally meet MAX. He is truly the embodiment of courage, and we all continue for MAX and his family and wish them nothing but the best on the road ahead. You have a lot of people that love you MAX.
I try very hard to write this blog from a sorta generic view, without a lot of my own personal opinions interjected here, but this time around, I cannot do that, so I apologize in advance. There are no words to express how proud I am of the Spartans. I am proud to call every single one of you my friend. The way we have rallied around this young man is truly remarkable. To just be included to cook for this fundraiser is something I am truly proud of. I know it was a contest, but I also know I had already won before we even fired up the smokers, by being able to help out here in our Cape Coral Community. Brandon, you did a great job getting this together. A special thanks to everyone that came and competed, some as far away as Mount Dora. A thank you to all of the sponsors Nevermind, Master Purveyors , Meat Goons , Roofing By Home Plus, Big Boi's BBQ, and many more!!!
See told you we would come back. Not everything can be BBQ Sauce and bounce houses all the time... The 9U crew headed into Ft. Myers for the Prostyle Holiday Invitational. And I am just going to cut the chase. THEY WON THE WHOLE THING!!!!! CHAMPIONS!!! Great job this weekend boys. Keep up the good work this weekend when both 8U and 9U travel to Sarasota for the anual Toys For Tots Benefit. We hope to see you all there!
